TALKS | BEING HAPPY AND A POSTIVE MIND

Positive thinking: sometimes it feels like it's getting harder and harder. Mostly when there are events or situations in your life that make you feel extra insecure about yourself, it's hard to not feel down at times. Recently I have gone through some personal things that overall didn't do much good to my confidence and my mood. After having some time to think about all the happenings in my life lately, I realized that you can either feel down and shitty about it, or you can use it as an eye opener and really control the way you think. Because after all, you can choose to be happy. In this somewhat personal blog post I wrote down the things that have been helping me feel better lately. I hope it might help some of you if you have been feeling down.
I really think that positive thinking can affect you. Just don't think bad about yourself and other people. If you are a confident and content person, you won't feel as much need to bring yourself or other people down (sometimes most people don't even realize they are doing this). After all, everbody has this sometimes. It is human to once in a while not like everything and everyone, and you don't need to. But just try to think happy about yourself and the people and things around you. If you start seeing the good in everything and you (try to) act grateful, even when life gets a little less, you'll feel that you can find happiness in the most unexpected moments. Tell yourself that you are beautiful and everyone and everything around you is too (even that teacher you hate or that old small car your driving in).
The next thing is to surround yourself with positivity and block out negativity. This is possible on more levels than you think. With this I am not only saying the obvious, like not surrounding yourself with 'toxic' people that make you feel less worthy, but you can also block out negative details. Take for example the things on your phone; don't save pictures of 'perfect' pretty, skinny or curvy girls just for you to compare yourself to them and see them as someone that you have to be. Which goes with my next point: don't compare yourself to others in a negative way. Don't try to think that you have to have someone elses perfect face, grades or boyfriend. Also, don't despise people for it. Jealousy does not make anyone happier. Just want good things for you and others, too. There is already enough poison in this world, you don't have to be a part of that. Try to see that you are beautiful too, and you are yourself. You don't need to change in order for yourself to like you and especially not for others.
After this long perspective on happiness (if you really read that, props for you), I am going to list some simple ways you can have happiness in your life, on short and long term. These things really help me out a lot and it might do the same for you.
- Replace 'when' through 'if''. Don't use the word if. Just don't. (from the youtuber jbunzie).
- Help others! You might immediately think about voluntary work, but it can also be a lot more smaller than that. Buying your friend a drink, smile at someone, giving someone a compliment, spontaneously give a loved one a present, being a good listener or giving that dollar (that you weren't actually gonna use anyway) to that street musician you always see. Not only can these small deeds mean a real difference in someones day, it also makes you feel happier to give other people joy.
- Do things that you like. If you do the things that you love and bring you joy, you will feel much more happier. This can be singing, practising a sport, bake, playing your favourite instrument, drawing or reading. But this can also just be doing your make-up, watching your favourite show or hanging out with friends or family.
- Dare yourself, challenge yourself and go on adventures! I think that if you are stuck in a routine everyday of the week, you can get a little worn out. By challenging yourself, doing spontaneous things and overcoming fears, you keep your life exciting and you give yourself the chance to grow and learn. This will automatically bring you more happiness.
- Smile. It's so simple but sometimes so easily forgotten. By smiling you radiate happiness to everyone around you and it can make you feel a lot better. If life is shitty, just smile. It wouldn't change for the better if you were to be walking around with a frown, giving everybody dead looks. So just smile!
Thankyou for reading this. I hope this makes you think and brings a bit joy to your day, even if it's just a little. Just remember that everyone feels a bit less fabulous everyday, but that doesn't change the fact that you are (yas gurl).
Love, Sarah
